How do I know if a trade was placed by Claude MCP, and what do I do if something goes wrong?

Explains how to identify trades placed through Claude using the 'Placed via MCP' comment tag and provides a troubleshooting reference table for common portal visibility or session errors.
Updated 4 days ago

Every trade executed by Claude is automatically tagged with "Placed via MCP" in the Comment column of your trade history.

Check your trade history in the Axi Client Portal, Axi mobile app, or MT5 terminal and look at the Comment column:

  • Placed via Claude: The trade history will explicitly show the comment Placed via MCP.

  • Placed manually, via EA, or another platform/instance: The trade will not have the “Placed via MCP” tag. If a trade lacks the Claude comment, it was executed through another method or source.

Common situations and what to do

Situation

What's happening

What to do

Can't connect to MCP (no active MT5 account)

Requires an active MT5 account. Closed, archived, MT4-only, or Axi-platform-only accounts can open MCP settings (Client Portal or mobile) but can't connect; the page will say so.

MCP connection requires an active MT5 account. Closed, archived, MT4-only, and Axi-platform-only accounts aren't supported.

Free plan connector limit error

Claude's Free tier permits a maximum of one active custom connector simultaneously.

You can remove any alternate active custom connectors in Claude, or upgrade your Claude plan through Anthropic to maintain multiple connections.

Connection shows "connection expired"

The active authorization token or session has lapsed.

Click Reconnect within Claude to re-authenticate the connection session securely.

No “Add connector” option

You may be using an enterprise or company Claude account that does not have permissions to add custom connectors.

First, check which type of Claude account you are currently logged into:

Company or Team accounts: Your workspace admin may restrict custom connectors. Ask your organization's Claude admin to enable them. This setting is managed in your company's Claude admin settings, not by Axi.

Personal Account: You should be able to add custom connectors freely. If the option is missing, this may indicate a technical issue on Claude's side. Please contact Anthropic support via the Claude Help Center.

"A connector with this URL already exists in your organization"

This means that the connection already exists. The Axi MCP server URL [https://mcp.axi.com/mcp] has already been added to your Claude workspace or organization.

You do not need to add it again. Cancel the new addition and navigate to  Customize > Connectors > Axi, and click Connect or re-authenticate from there.

Pasted the wrong server URL / Connection fails to initialize

The system cannot parse the custom connector URL. Claude does not currently support in-place URL editing.

Delete the custom connector entirely within Claude, copy a fresh URL string from your Axi portal settings, and create a new custom connector.

Accidental denial of a permission prompt

The requested action tool execution was blocked based on user input.

Issue a new request to Claude to re-trigger the authorization prompt interface.

Trading action error on MT4 or Axi trading accounts

Trading execution commands are restricted exclusively to MT5 accounts. MT4 and Axi trading platform profiles are configured for data-viewing only.

Ensure your active technical session targets an MT5 account before initiating order commands.

You want to dispute or query a specific trade

Same as any standard trade query

Confirm the "Placed via MCP" tag, then contact Axi support (via email or live chat) with the order ID following our normal Trade Investigation process.

Demo account trade returns an error

The demo account has reached its expiration date.

Check account status—Claude lists expired demo accounts explicitly when queried. Open a new demo account if needed/possible.
