What does a "Duplicate account" error mean?

Find out why you may see a “Duplicate account” error when trying to create an account, including when your email address is already linked to an existing profile. This article explains how to access your existing account, apply for a sub-account when eligible, and recover access depending on how you originally signed in.

If you see the message “There was an issue creating your account. Please try again, and contact support if this continues,” it may mean that the details you entered are already linked to an existing account.

Why am I seeing this error?

You may see this error if:

  • The email address is already registered to an existing account.

  • You previously signed up using Google, Apple or Facebook with the same email address.

  • You are trying to create a new profile with an email address you already use.

  • You started registering an account previously, and your email address is already linked to it.

  • You are trying to create a separate profile because you want to apply for an additional account.

How can I fix it?

If you already have an account, you usually do not need to create a new profile.

If you want an additional account:

  • Sign in to your existing profile.

  • If you have not reached the maximum number of accounts allowed, you can apply for a sub-account from your existing profile.

  • You do not need to register a new profile or use a different email address.

If you cannot access your existing account:

  • If you registered with an email address and password, use the “Forgot password” option on the mobile app or Client Portal login page.

  • If you registered using Google, Apple or Facebook, use the same social login method to sign in. If you need to reset your password, do this directly through Google, Apple or Facebook. Do not use the “Forgot password” option on the mobile app or Client Portal, as your password is managed by the social login provider.

If you are sure that you do not already have an account with the email address you entered and the error continues, contact support so we can help you.
